AFRO soul singer Khole is carving out a new path in the music industry as an independent artist.
She is currently working on fresh material and experimenting with a different sound through a collaboration with Mozambican Afro-tech DJ and producer, Owa Oda.
The talented artists recently spent time in Mozambique recording a new single titled ‘Arabian Guy’, which is set for release soon.
Speaking about the collaboration, Khole revealed that Owa Oda sent her several beats to choose from, and one in particular stood out. “I really liked this one beat, and I decided to write a song based on it,” she said. “Although I was nervous, I’ve always wanted to step out of my comfort zone, which is Afro-soul, and try something different.”
Describing the song’s inspiration, Khole added, “I grew up watching a lot of movies with Arabic characters, and when I heard the beat, it reminded me of those visuals. That’s where the idea for ‘Arabian Guy’ came from. It’s a romantic and uplifting song, and I honestly can’t wait for people to hear it.”
Khole revealed that she first met Owa Oda during her booking at the Divas Concert, and they stayed in touch via Instagram. This connection has since led to what she hopes will be more collaborations in the future. “I plan to return to Mozambique to work on more music with her,” said Khole. “I am happy that she’s introducing me to house music. I have always wanted the space to learn without feeling rushed.”
Reflecting on their studio time together, Khole expressed admiration for Owa Oda’s professionalism and dedication. “I was impressed by her work ethic. She is a powerhouse, a woman who owns and runs a studio, which is something we don’t often see in Eswatini.”
When asked about her journey as an independent artist, Khole said she feels grateful. “I’m thankful to God for helping me find my groove.
“This journey has shown me that I am capable of much more than I thought. This collaboration is proof of that.”
Owa Oda also spoke positively about the partnership.
“Working with Khole has been an incredible experience. Our chemistry in the studio flowed naturally, and we were able to create something authentic and soulful. I am very happy with the recordings and excited to finish the project and share it with everyone,” she said.
