FILM Director Siphosethu Sibandze is making waves in the film industry, putting Eswatini on an international cinematic map as he is set to showcase his work at two more festivals.

Following the recent success of his film ‘A Dream: Liphupho’, which won the Best Film Award in South Africa’s Uhuru Festival in Limpopo, Sibandze is set to showcase the same film at two prestigious film festivals this month.

Sibandze’s films were also featured at the Uhuru Festival and the Waterloo Film Festival in Durban recently, where his storytelling and cinematic vision garnered critical acclaim.
According to Sibandze, the Best Film Award for ‘A Dream: Liphupho’ has opened new doors, leading to invitations to the Bushbuckridge Film Festival set for tomorrow until Saturday and the Matsulu Film Festival to take place on July 31 to August 2. The Bushbuckridge festival promises four days of free film festivities, including workshops, masterclasses, powerful screenings and industry talks aimed at youth empowerment through film.

“This is a huge milestone not just for me but for Eswatini’s film industry. To have our stories told on international platforms is a proud moment for our country.
“These festivals are looking for bold, authentic and thought-provoking films and it’s exciting that Eswatini’s voice is being heard,” Sibandze said.

The significance of Sibandze’s achievements extends beyond personal success. Eswatini’s film industry is still emerging and his recognition in multiple international festivals signals growing interest and respect for Swati narratives.
“It’s thrilling to see Swati work being recognised and appreciated on such stages,” he added.
However, Sibandze also highlighted some challenges, particularly financial constraints.

“Some festivals cover accommodation and transport for directors, but not always for actors. We often want to attend with our cast, so financial support is crucial to fully participate and represent our films,” he explained.
Siphosethu Sibandze’s journey reflects the potential of Eswatini’s creative talent to engage global audiences. With his films ‘A Dream: Liphupho’, ‘Lifa Lami’ and the recently released ‘Khumbini’, Sibandze is a beacon that aspires filmmakers in the region.
