SOCCER – WITH three matches remaining in the MTN Premier League season, Hleliso Gamedze is edging closer to winning his first ever Golden Boot Award.
The pacey forward has now increased his tally to 18 goals after scoring in Sunday’s commanding 4-1 victory over Malanti Chiefs.
Reflecting on his impressive scoring form, Gamedze credited his coaches and teammates for playing a key role in his development and consistency.
He said their constant encouragement and high training standards had pushed him to improve his finishing and work rate.
“My coaches and teammates always push me hard to score and to double my efforts. I am always indebted to them. It was tough at the start when I joined the team from Rangers but with proper support I have settled well and adapted to the system,” he said.
Last season’s Golden Boot winner, Sabelo Ndzinisa set the benchmark with 20 goals, meaning Gamedze needs just a few more strikes to surpass that mark if he maintains his current form.
Meanwhile, Tabankulu Celtics striker Malangeni Dlamini remains his closest challenger, trailing by three goals.
Other players still in contention include Philani Mkhonto, Owa Matsebula and Senzo ‘Mbhobho’ Ndlovu, who are all part of the leading pack as the race intensifies towards the season finale.
As the season approaches its climax, fans expect a thrilling finish in the golden boot race across the league. Gamedze remains focused on helping Royal Leopard secure victory while keeping his scoring momentum strong until the final whistle.
