Mahindra South Africa (SA) recorded another landmark year in 2025, achieving its highest annual sales as the domestic market continued to shift towards more affordable vehicles.

The company sold 18 097 new vehicles during the year — a 40% increase on its 2024 performance and well ahead of the overall domestic market growth of 15%.

While Mahindra’s sales have traditionally been driven by its Pik Up bakkie range, 2025 saw a strong contribution from passenger vehicles.

Passenger vehicle sales more than doubled, rising from 3 969 units in 2024 to 8 085 units in 2025.

This sharp growth was underpinned by the strong performance of the XUV 3XO compact sport-utility vehicle (SUV) and the Scorpio-N large SUV.

Both the XUV 3XO and Scorpio-N were voted Motor Enthusiast’s Choice at consecutive South African Car of the Year awards.

“Mahindra is here to stay,” said Mahindra SA chief executive officer Rajesh Gupta.

“As we enter our third decade in South Africa, we will double down on our business model of responsible investment, sustainable growth and authentic products with world-class support.

“If we continue to focus on these business fundamentals, then the sales success will continue.”

Looking ahead, Mahindra is expected to introduce the XUV 7XO as the successor to the XUV 700, alongside the launch of the new Bolero.

Mahindra South Africa is a wholly owned subsidiary of India-based Mahindra & Mahindra.

The company operates close to 100 dealerships across South Africa and exports vehicles to Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia.

It currently undertakes semi-knockdown assembly of its bakkies in Durban and is conducting a feasibility study to transition to full vehicle assembly.
