The Gospel Life Sanctuary International Church and the wider Christian community are mourning the sudden death of Apostle Andile David Hlophe, who collapsed and passed away during a church service on Sunday.

This was confirmed by the church’s Founder Apostle Wonder Khumalo, who said nothing had been reported to the church indicating that Hlophe was ill. He said it was all sudden and shocking to the church, more so because he was on the pulpit when he collapsed.

This moment is said to have quickly turned a worship service into a scene of distress and disbelief.

Attempts were reportedly made to assist him, but he was unfortunately pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

His church in a statement said Hlophe’s passing was untimely and has left congregants, family members and followers in deep shock and sorrow. The church described his death as a painful loss, calling on the public to keep the family and the church in their prayers during this difficult period.

“It is with profound sadness and deep sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved Pastor Andile David Hlophe.”

The church further appealed for prayers, support and understanding, adding that details regarding funeral arrangements would be communicated in due course.

The news of Hlophe’s passing spread through social media platforms like wildfire, with many users, some of whom were close to him, expressing shock at his sudden passing.

Some expressed how he had appeared healthy and well over the weekend when he officiated a church member’s wedding.

His Facebook page had been active with the latest post being made on Saturday after a wedding he had attended. A few days ago, Apostle Hlophe had also shared his reflection of this year, which some social media users said they understood differently now that he has departed.

Also, the clergyman was scheduled to preach during revivals that will be held at Yeshua Cathedral between December 28 and 31, at Luyengo.

The pastor who was former Member of Parliament Jimmy Hlophe’s son, was known for his passionate preaching, vibrant ministry and commitment to spreading the gospel. Many of those who knew the clergyman described him as a devoted servant of God whose messages inspired hope, faith and transformation.

Messages of condolence have since begun to pour in from political figures, fellow clergy, congregants and members of the public, who have expressed shock at his sudden passing and extended sympathies to the Hlophe family.

His church asked for privacy and continued prayers for the family as they come to terms with the loss.

Further announcements regarding memorial and funeral services are expected to be released by the church in due course.
