In a landmark moment for Eswatini, Prince Sicelo has taken on a pivotal role as one of the directors under Bomb Production for the second season of the critically acclaimed television series, Shaka iLembe.


This collaboration marks a significant milestone in showcasing Eswatini’s rich history and cultural heritage, as it highlights the deep-rooted historical and cultural ties between Eswatini and the Zulu Kingdom, now told through the lens of South African media.

Bomb Production, widely respected for its innovative storytelling and commitment to authentic African narratives, partnered with Prince Sicelo to ensure that Eswatini’s heritage is seamlessly woven into the Shaka iLembe storyline.

The Season 2 premiere of the series was held on June 12 at Montecasino in Johannesburg, where Prince Sicelo was in attendance, accompanied by a distinguished delegation. The delegation included Lindiwe Mndzebele, Counsellor at the Eswatini High Commission to South Africa, and Thobejane Magagula, a cast member from Eswatini.

The presence of His Majesty King Misuzulu at the premiere added a royal dimension to the event and further underscored the cultural partnership between the royal households of Eswatini and Zululand.

Local Talent Shines
During the premiere, Prince Sicelo emphasized the significance of His Majesty King Mswati III’s insights regarding historical figures and events connected to Eswatini. He also praised the collaborative spirit of the Bomb Production team, which led to the recruitment of five actors and 70 performers from Eswatini.

This inclusion of local talent not only enhanced the authenticity of the series but also opened up valuable opportunities for creatives from Eswatini in the film and television industry.

Desiree Markgraff, Executive Producer of Shaka iLembe, and Nomsa Philiso, CEO of General Entertainment at MultiChoice, both lauded the importance of accurate African storytelling.

Philiso expressed deep appreciation to the royal families for their involvement and support, while Markgraff reiterated that Shaka iLembe was created to celebrate African heritage, roots, and identity.

The show’s goal is to inspire African audiences with relatable heroes who reflect the continent’s history and values.

Global Impact of African Storytelling
The cultural impact of Shaka iLembe extends far beyond entertainment. The series has helped reshape the narrative of African history and instill pride among viewers. It has become the most-watched African television series on Showmax, garnering 17 nominations and 13 wins at the 2024 South African Television Awards (SAFTAs).
