New Mbabane Highlanders AM FC boss Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize says she may bring some Royal AM players to the country.
However, she said she was not sure if her son Andile Mpisane would want to continue playing football.
Mkhize made this statement during an interview with Metro FM presenter Andile Ncube yesterday. She began by stating that she would have loved to continue with Royal AM, but circumstances did not allow it.
“I love my players dearly and after realising that things were not going my way, I decided to give them my blessing and allow them to join other teams,” she said.
She mentioned missing all her players, noting that while some had already moved on, others were still without clubs.
“I will try to make a plan for them. In fact, I might bring them to Mbabane Highlanders AM FC.” She added that she would first assess the team and evaluate her current squad.
“Only after evaluating the team will I decide whether to bring some of my Royal AM players to Highlanders.” She said she would be meeting the Highlanders players this Friday during which she would assess the team for the first time. “I know this is a big step but what I can say is that I make sure to finish what I start. I enjoy contributing and I will do just that.”
She pointed out that people needed to understand that there was no money in football.
“You only make money in football through solid sponsorship. For now, it’s about trying things out with Mbabane Highlanders AM FC and I know we will make progress and take the team to greater heights.”
When asked about the challenges she was facing, Mkhize said it was a matter of perception.
“I am not defined by the things I own. I can always start from scratch and become something again. As long as I still have my mind, I am good to go,” she said.
She likened taking over Highlanders AM FC to working with a blank canvas, shaping it the way she wanted. She expressed happiness at taking charge of a team with a well-established support structure.
Based on what she had already observed, she said it was evident that Highlanders had a strong fan-base in Eswatini.
