Samora Wins Tightly Contested Race

SOCCER – Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane has been re-elected as President of the Eswatini Football Association (EFA).

Simelane defeated former vice President Mashumi Shongwe by six votes in a tightly contested presidential race held during the EFA Ordinary General Assembly yesterday at Hilton Garden Inn in Mbabane.

Simelane secured 27 votes while Shongwe collected 21, earning Simelane a second term at the helm for the next four years.

Shongwe left the venue immediately after the presidential results were announced by the Chairman of the EFA Electoral Committee, Siphosini Dlamini.

Vice-Presidents and Executive Committee Elected

The assembly also elected two vice-presidents, two executive committee members, and one women representative yesterday.

Hhohho Regional Football Association General Secretary, Nkosingiphile Shongwe, was the clear favourite in the vice president race, claiming 31 votes, closely followed by Steve Horton with 26. Both secured the vice-president positions.

The two executive committee seats were won by Aaron ‘Katalala’ Mavimbela and Sicelo Nene. Mavimbela amassed an impressive 36 votes, with Nene coming second on 29, to edge out Musa Mamba (22 votes) and Sibusiso ‘Scorpion’ Nxumalo (seven votes).

Meanwhile, Phumzile Dlamini defeated Sindi Dludlu by 29 votes to 17 to secure the women’s seat in the executive committee.

The elected executive will now join the four chairpersons of the Hhohho, Manzini, Shiselweni, and Lubombo Regional Associations, the Chairman of the Women’s Football Association, Bonginkhosi Mhlanga, and the chairman of the Referees Association to form the 13-member EFA executive committee for the next four years.
