The internationally acclaimed MTN Bushfire Festival, Eswatini’s premier music and arts celebration, recently took centre stage on CNN’s prestigious programme, Inside Africa.


Inside Africa, known for spotlighting innovators, entrepreneurs, tech pioneers and artistic visionaries, continued to introduce audiences to transformative stories shaping Africa’s future.

The feature which was shot during the festival, highlighted the festival’s dynamic role in promoting creative expression, social responsibility and economic growth, while drawing a diverse crowd of artists and tourists from across the continent and the globe.

In a compelling segment, key figures behind the festival shared their passion and vision. Festival Director Jiggs Thorne, Marketplace Curator Philippa Thorne, and Communications Manager Phiwo Dhlamini spoke in depth about how the Bushfire Festival had become a beacon of artistic innovation and cultural exchange.

They emphasised its mission to celebrate creative expression through the festival’s signature eclectic, multidisciplinary programme comprising of live music, theatre, poetry, film, circus, dance, and visual arts, staged in one of Africa’s most breath-taking natural settings, the scenic House on Fire.

The festival’s ability to unite a multi-generational and global community was a focal point of the discussion. Another focal point added was House on Fire’s year-round arts programming which survives the three-day festival weekend.

They touched on CollaboNation, Schools Festival, Arts around Table and the various art initiatives that helped them further advance their impact in promoting arts industry development, arts mobility and collaboration.
The team behind the festival further shared how every year, up to thousands of participants ‘bring their fire’ to the unique event, immersing themselves in a rich Pan-African and international line-up.

They further spoke about how the festival not only entertained but also served as a platform for social dialogue and economic stimulation, impacting local communities and boosting tourism in Eswatini.
CNN’s Inside Africa segment further showcased mesmerising performances by some of Africa’s finest artists, captivating viewers with the passion and talent on display.

The festival’s vibrant atmosphere and cultural significance were vividly brought to life, underscoring why Bushfire is a must-visit event for lovers of the arts and African culture.
The 2026 MTN Bushfire Festival is scheduled to take place from May 29 to June 31, promising another unforgettable celebration of creativity and community spirit.
