SOCCER – Mbabane Swallows head coach Caleb Ngwenya lamented the early goals they conceded in the match that led to their exit from the Ingwenyama Cup.

The capital city giants suffered a 0-3 defeat at the hands of Young Buffaloes at Mavuso Sports Centre. Speaking after the match, a visibly dejected Ngwenya acknowledged that they had a bad day in the office.

“We didn’t settle well and conceded two early goals. That took a toll on the players as we were two goals behind. We tried to regroup in the second half and created chances, but it wasn’t enough to break their defence. It was one of those games where we couldn’t apply ourselves well. We bow out to focus on the league,” said the former three-time champions coach.

Young Buffaloes coach Dominic Kunene praised his players and technical bench for executing the game plan effectively.

“Our game plan was to sit in our half and deny them spaces to manoeuvre. I think we executed the plan well. Credit also goes to my technical bench, as they did well analysing Mbabane Swallows. It is also good that we kept a clean sheet,” he said.

The former national team coach added that they needed to work harder if they wanted to reach the final.

“We have to take one game at a time. We are now focusing on the semi-final. Reaching the final will require extra effort,” he said.

Buffaloes won the prestigious cup in 2018 when they defeated a Saul Chamunuka-led Mbabane Highlanders side 4-1 at a fully packed Somhlolo National Stadium.
