SOCCER – Nsingizini Hotspurs are the new champions of the Ingwenyama Cup after defeating Green Mamba 1-0 in a dramatic final played at Somhlolo National Stadium this afternoon.
The prestigious event was graced by the presence of His Majesty King Mswati III and Her Majesty The Indlovukazi, who joined thousands of football and culture lovers to witness the blending of football and culture.
The match-winning goal was scored by Ayanda Gadlela in the 97th minute during the first half of extra time. His powerful strike broke the deadlock and sent the Nsingizini supporters into wild celebrations.
The drama reached its peak after Nsingizini had already taken the lead, when Green Mamba were awarded a penalty, giving them a golden chance to equalise and stay alive in the contest. However, captain and star striker Sabelo Ndzinisa missed the crucial spot-kick.
That miss proved to be the final heartbreak for the Correctional Services side. Nsingizini held firm in the closing stages to secure a historic victory and the E1.45 million prize.
The final formed part of celebrations marking His Majesty’s Ruby Jubilee and 58th birthday. In the presence of Their Majesties, the stadium came alive with colourful traditional performances, turning the football spectacle into a national celebration of sport and culture.
In the end, it was Nsingizini Hotspurs who lifted the trophy and earned the honour of being crowned champions in front of Their Majesties, while Green Mamba were left wondering what might have been.
