According to the man’s 22-year-old girlfriend and mother of his two-year-old child, all this happened after she refused to leave a drinking spot with him earlier that morning.

“I told him I didn’t have enough cash on me, and that I would go back home to check if I could find money to buy him the food,” said the woman, adding that she did not feel well on this day.

When she got home, she said she forgot to check for the cash as promised, until after numerous calls from her lover asking if she wanted to assist him with a meal.

When she eventually got the cash and bought the food at Mashibhini, the man’s phone was unavailable on the network.

She added that around 8pm, she and her cousin decided to go out for drinks at Elangeni. While en route there, she received a phone call from the boyfriend.

“I told him about the night’s plan. That’s when he started shouting at me and called me names. He also threatened to hack me with a bushknife to teach me a lesson,” alleged the woman.

When they got to the establishment at Elangeni around 10pm, they found the boyfriend already enjoying drinks.

“He said he was still hungry because I had refused to buy him food. I asked why he did not buy food before liquor. We chatted and all seemed well for the duration of the night,” said the woman.

Around 2am, the man reportedly suggested that they leave together; however, the woman said she could not leave her cousin. Instead, she suggested calling her cousin so that they could all leave together.

“He assaulted me before driving off. I understand that on his way, he called his family members and told them that he would kill himself. He also called me and said he loved me and he wanted to bid farewell to his child,” she claimed.

She later hired a taxi and went home, only to be slapped hard across the face as soon as she stepped inside the house. All the while, he allegedly called her names.

“He dragged me outside the house and stabbed me several times on the upper back and further punched me with fists all over the body. My sister tried to intervene, but she was also stabbed several times in the chest,” she alleged.

His family members reportedly arrived and held him, but he managed to break free and allegedly slit his throat in their presence.

The police were called and the trio was rushed to hospital by emergency response personnel.
