In a momentous decision reflecting his deep appreciation for dedicated service, King Mswati III has elevated the ranks of eight distinguished officers within the army.

The promotions made during the 53rd Army Day celebration saw officers rising through the ranks from brigadier general to major general, major general to lieutenant general, and from colonel to brigadier general.

The promotions reflect continued recognition of leadership, experience and service.

Among those elevated to the rank of lieutenant general were Prince Ncanawe Dlamini and Collen Lasco, both moving up from the rank of major general to three-star rank, which marks a significant step within the command structure of the defence force.

Thabo Luhlanga, Sotja Dlamini and Chimpa Shongwe were all promoted from the rank of brigadier general to the rank of major general. Their elevation comes as part of a broader recognition of their roles and continued contribution within the military.

Shongwe is among those who had previously been promoted during earlier Army Day commemorations, an indication of continued recognition of his contribution. Similarly, Prince Ncamane, who was also promoted in a previous Army Day, reflects a pattern where continued service and impact within the military structure result in further advancement.

His Majesty King Mswati III promoted eight army officers to senior ranks during the 53rd Army Day celebration in recognition of service and leadership.

The king’s announcement also saw the promotion of David Magongo, who is currently on foreign service, from the rank of colonel to brigadier general. His elevation follows his service outside the country, including his role as a defence attaché.

Also promoted to brigadier general were Hoppy Vilakati and Phahlane Dlamini, both rising from the rank of colonel. Their promotion places them among the senior leadership within the army.

The promotions come at a time when the army continues to strengthen its structures, with both experienced officers and emerging leadership taking on greater responsibilities.

In addition, Thabo Luhlanga and Sotja Dlamini were notably promoted after a successfully concluded army recruitment exercise, which will see new recruits proceeding to training. Their involvement in the recruitment process highlights their role in shaping the next generation of soldiers.

The series of promotions announced by the king underscores continued progression within the military ranks, with officers being recognised for their service, experience and contribution to the defence of the nation.
