Soccer – Green Mamba defeated Illovo 3-1 in MTN Premier League match played yesterday afternoon at Mayaluka Stadium.
The correctional services outfit won the match courtesy of Siyabonga Zwane, Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu and Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa’s goals.
Ernest Mavuso men were the more aggressive team in the early minutes, creating a few promising attacks and they drew blood in the third minute through Siyabonga Zwane’s powerful header.
They continued to apply more pressure as they searched for another goal and Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa nearly extended the lead in 20 minutes but he narrowly missed the target. Illovo hit back five minutes later with Mpumuzi Sangweni’s effort, the opposition goalkeeper Xolani Gam Thwarted the attempt.
The first half ended with the host trailing 0-1. At the restart, Green Mamba pushed more numbers forward and they scored their second goal in the 63rd minute, Njabulo ‘D4D’ Ndlovu capitalising on a defensive error. As the match progressed the visitors were awarded a penalty after Sabelo Dlamini fouled Bongi Siphepho inside the box.
Sabelo ‘Sikhali’ Ndzinisa scored from the spot kick, to register his 17 goal in the league this season.
Illovo managed to get their consolation goal on the 89th minute when they got a penalty after Sibongakonkhe Silenge fouled Sambulo Vilakati .
Ayanda Thwala scored the only goal as the match ended 3-1 victory for Green Mamba.
