CONCERNS have once again been raised following the release of the latest grim marriage statistics of 592 couples divorcing last year.
According to Samuel Dlamini of the International Missions Centre, one of the most common causes for failed marriages is the absence of marriage counselling.
Bishop Dlamini stated that couples were getting into this institution without undergoing this important exercise.
He said this was part of the major contributing factors to divorce because people enter into marriages without knowledge of what it basically is.
The bishop further said some couples also get married without having a role model they may look up to, adding that some simply imagine what marriage should be like, which is wrong.
He emphasised that marriage is a covenant from God, whether a person is a believer or not.

He said if people do not want to follow the principles of God, they were be unlikely to have a healthy marriage. He said this is something that will lead to divorce because there is no one who will obey the principles of Christ without believing in God.
“These are some of the things that lead to divorce. Poor communication also leads to divorce. People sometimes fight because they are unable to communicate well with each other,” he said.
In their 2025/2026 performance report, the Ministry of Home Affairs revealed that there were 592 people who got divorced between April and December last year.
In the first quarter, the ministry stated that 209 people registered for divorce, while 196 divorced in the second quarter.
The ministry added that 46 couples divorced in October alone last year, while 48 divorced in November.
There were 98 couples who divorced in December, bringing the total number of marriages that were ended in the third quarter to 192.
The ministry is yet to compile the numbers of those that divorced around January to April this year.
