SOCCER – In a resounding show of loyalty and national purpose, Eswatini Football Association (EFA) President Peter ‘Samora’ Simelane has pledged the full commitment of the football governing body to His Majesty King Mswati III’s call to raise the nation’s football to continental heights.

Fresh from securing another term at the helm of the EFA, Simelane made it clear that the King’s directive will serve as the cornerstone of their vision and strategy moving forward.

“The King’s instructions were very clear in that we must qualify for competitions such as the World Cup, CHAN and AFCON — and not merely participate but achieve good results. We are answering the King’s call with immediate effect. We will work tirelessly to deliver on this mandate. A lot needs to be put in place but as the executive, we are committed to ensuring that football in the country improves,” said Simelane.

The King made this call during the Ingwenyama Cup prize presentation held at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre.

Focus on Grassroots Development

Central to this renewed effort is the decentralisation of football development. Simelane revealed that regional growth would be prioritised, aligning with the King’s broader vision of empowering grassroots talent across the kingdom.

“We are going to take football to the regions because development plays a vital role in shaping the final product, which is the national team players,” he added.

Local Clubs and Infrastructure

Simelane commended local clubs for playing their part, especially through efforts to attract investment — another step that aligns with the King’s broader call for progress and excellence.

On infrastructure, he welcomed the reopening of the iconic Somhlolo National Stadium for local fixtures, attributing the development to effective collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs.

“We are happy to note that Nsingizini Hotspurs and Royal Leopard will host their games at Somhlolo National Stadium, something we have not witnessed in a long time. We are optimistic that by next year, the stadium will be fully refurbished,” he said.

Clear Path Ahead

As the EFA enters this new chapter, Simelane reiterated that the path ahead is clear and purposeful: to honour the King’s vision through action, unity, and results.

“We are not just responding, but committing. The King has spoken and we will follow,” he concluded.
