According to their assessments, the most significantly affected areas were Manzini where 651 faults were reported, followed by Pigg’s Peak which recorded 625 faults.

Siteki was also hit hard as it recorded 361 faults, while Madlangempisi reported 326 faults and Big Bend recorded 317 faults.

Winds

Mavuso stated that they were aware of the widespread power outages affecting many of their customers, following last night’s severe thunderstorm, which particularly impacted the northern region.

He said their teams were actively responding to the situation.

He added that the high winds and storms have caused broken poles, fallen power lines, tripped fuses and other damage to their infrastructure.

He assured the public that EEC was working around the clock, prioritising safety and restoration.

He said repair work had already begun in accessible areas and they have mobilised all available resources and personnel to address the faults as quickly as possible.

However, he stated that their restoration efforts were hindered in some locations due to flooded rivers, slippery conditions and blocked roads.

“We are working to gain access as soon as it is safe to do so.

‘‘The public is advised to treat all fallen power lines as live and extremely dangerous and should not approach or touch them,” he said.

He added that they should also keep a safe distance and report any fallen lines and/or damaged infrastructure immediately to EEC emergency services.
