THIS year, His Majesty King Mswati III marks the 40th anniversary of his coronation alongside his 58th birthday, a historic dual milestone that highlights four decades of leadership defined by unity, peace and national pride.

To mark the momentous double celebrations, Minister of Home Affairs Princess Lindiwe yesterday unveiled an official logo for the Ruby Jubilee, which features a crown, wreaths, four stars, the number 40, a scroll and the national flag, accompanied by the message: ‘A king for the people, a reign for ages — 40 years strong.’

The King was crowned on April 25, 1986, at the age of 18.

The minister said the logo would be available free of charge at the ministry’s communications office, which will also provide guidance on its proper use in promotional activities leading up to the celebrations. The office can be contacted on 7606 3939.

Princess Lindiwe officially launched the logo at Happy Valley Hotel.

She described 2026 as a year of great significance for the nation, saying the dual milestone reflected the collective commitment of citizens to building a brighter future anchored in hope, respect and solidarity.

Among those present were Prince Sicalo, princes, Cabinet ministers and other dignitaries. The minister emphasised that the anniversary is not only a celebration of His Majesty’s reign, but also an opportunity for the nation to unite and reaffirm its dedication to progress.

She encouraged all stakeholders to embrace the logo and actively participate in the festivities, stressing that the anniversary represents both continuity and renewal for the nation.

On behalf of chiefs, Prince Sicunusa said the impressive number of emabutfo who underwent kubutseka this year was a prophetic sign linked to the King’s 40 years of reign.

He noted that the growing devotion of the people reflected both His Majesty’s leadership and the country’s development.

“When a nation develops, the signs are always evident. The number of people drawing closer to the King is a sign that the country is developing,” he said.

Celebrations at Lobamba

HIS Majesty King Mswati III’s 58th birthday will be celebrated on April 24 in Lobamba.

The King was born on April 19, 1968.

This year, his birthday falls on a Sunday. Ordinarily, when a public holiday falls on a Sunday, it is observed the following Monday.

However, the Ministry of Home Affairs has not yet announced the public holiday for the King’s birthday, as April 24 also falls on a Friday.

The minister said His Majesty has declared that this year’s birthday celebrations will be held in Lobamba, under the Hhohho Region, on April 24.

She said the year marks a major milestone for the nation as it celebrates both His Majesty’s 58th birthday and 40th coronation anniversary.

“I am honoured to invite all locals to join Their Majesties in commemorating this auspicious occasion.

“Let us all come together to celebrate this special moment in our history,” she said.

She further invited the nation and the business community to take ownership of the event and celebrate the milestone while showcasing the country’s rich culture and heritage.
