ESWATINI has been selected to host the Africa Epilepsy Trust Fund, a major continental initiative aimed at improving treatment, awareness and support for people living with epilepsy.

Eswatini Epilepsy Organisation patron Prince Bandzile said the country would host a fundraising campaign to mobilise resources for individuals living with epilepsy.

Speaking during the International Epilepsy Day Commemoration 2026 held yesterday at the Hilton Garden Inn, Prince Bandzile said hosting the fund marked a significant milestone for the country’s health sector and demonstrated Eswatini’s commitment to addressing neurological disorders.

The prince revealed that he had been tasked to serve as patron of the Africa Epilepsy Trust Fund, an initiative spearheaded by the International Bureau for Epilepsy Africa Region.

Speaking under the theme ‘Focusing on Turning Awareness into Concrete Actions for Better Safety, Inclusion, and Understanding’, Prince Bandzile stressed that awareness alone was no longer sufficient and called for practical measures that would improve the lives of people living with epilepsy.

He commended the collective efforts of stakeholders — including policymakers, legislators, healthcare practitioners, academics, civil society organisations and persons living with epilepsy — for supporting initiatives aimed at tackling the condition.

The prince also extended gratitude to Taiwan and the Taiwan Medical Mission for their continued partnership and support in strengthening Eswatini’s healthcare sector.

He noted that collaboration between the two nations had resulted in notable progress in addressing epilepsy and other neurological disorders.

Prince Bandzile further acknowledged the Ministry of Health for its leadership in advancing epilepsy programmes and supporting the Eswatini Epilepsy Organisation.

He revealed that the government’s reviewed subvention to the organisation had enabled the expansion of public awareness and education programmes across the country.
