A police officer allegedly cut a hole in the roof to discreetly enter the house of a colleague who was away on Incwala duties to steal over E15 000.

The daring burglary was carried out on Monday evening.

The officer who was also assigned to provide security at the ongoing Incwala festivities, allegedly gave his superiors the slip and left his duty station where he knew that his colleague had left a large amount of money inside his house at the Gege police camp.

A witness said he cut his way through the roof and crawled into the ceiling, dropping inside the bedroom.

A police officer disclosed that the money was hidden under the bed.

A witness claimed the culprit made a mess of the house as he initially attempted to bend burglar bars to get in through the window, but was unsuccessful.

It is alleged that the intruder was familiar with the building’s security measures.

“The culprit cut into the roof with some tools and then dropped through the ceiling into the bedroom. The house is located in the police camp,” narrated a police officer.

The robber netted over E15 000, according to the well-placed source.

“It was an unusual break-in at the police camp,” said the source.

The suspect’s arraignment can be expected soon.
