Moneni Pirates President Thulani Xaba has laid down the gauntlet for newly appointed head coach Meck Mwase, demanding nothing less than silverware in the upcoming season.
Xaba, speaking during a well-attended meeting yesterday at the Manzini Club, which brought together supporters, players, management, and sponsors made it clear that winning trophies was the club’s primary expectation of the former Mbabane Highlanders mentor.
“Pirates were once renowned for their winning pedigree,” Xaba declared. “But it has been far too long since we lifted a major trophy. Our loyal supporters are hungry for success, and we believe coach Mwase is the right man to lead us back to glory.”
Reflecting on last season’s performance, Xaba praised the players and technical team for their resurgence. “We reached two finals in the 2024/25 season, though unfortunately lost both. We climbed from the bottom of the table to finish fifth in the MTN Premier League with 41 points, which was an achievement we hadn’t seen in nearly 15 years. For that, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the players. You carried the club’s colours with pride and honour.”
He challenged the squad to build on last season’s momentum.
“Now is the time to aim higher. The bar has been set, and we must reach even greater heights. Our vision is to restore the club’s former glory by building a team that is united, competitive, and deeply rooted in its identity.”
Xaba spoke passionately about creating a club culture, where every player is proud to don the skull and crossbones badge, and where supporters feel valued and heard.
“This is also a call to our corporate partners,” he continued. “We want long-term partnerships built on loyalty, not just transactional sponsorships. We will remain focused on our strategic objectives, addressing challenges head-on and closing any existing gaps.”
In closing, the president thanked the board, management and all individuals who have contributed to the club’s progress.
“Your commitment has been the cornerstone of our recent success. The journey ahead is not for spectators. We all have a role to play and now is the time to act.”
