SOCCER – Royal Leopard assistant coach Mfanzile Dlamini says luck has deserted the side in the 2025/26 MTN Premier League.
This comes after the police outfit suffered another painful 1-2 defeat against Moneni Pirates on Saturday at the Mavuso Sports Centre. The loss saw the 2024/25 MTN Premier League runners-up remain in tenth position in the league standings with 24 points.
“It was a tough match; we created chances, especially in the first half. But it was one of those days where we just could not score. The boys are fighting hard, but unfortunately luck has deserted us. We won’t give up and shall continue fighting for maximum points,” he said.
Moneni Pirates coach Mathews Mandlazi appeared unhappy with the officiating despite the result.
“It was a good match, but I am starting to have my doubts about certain people. We scored a goal and they said it was offside. We were also denied a clear penalty later in the match. Otherwise, I am happy with the fighting spirit from the boys. Before the match, I told them that Royal Leopard owed us six points. It feels good that we secured the maximum points,” he said.
The coach added that their target is to finish in a respectable position.
Yesterday’s win saw the ‘Sea Robbers’ move into fourth spot in the standings, and they look set to challenge for honours with 11 matches remaining before the 2025/26 season draws to a close.
