Ministry of Home Affairs Communications Officer, Mlandvo Dlamini, says investigations into the alleged issuing of an Eswatini national identification (ID) to controversial South African ‘crime boss’ Vusimuti ‘Cat’ Matlala are progressing well.
He said the ministry was working with the police service on the issue and that any official implicated would be charged.

Dlamini noted that he could not divulge details of the investigations but assured the public that progress was being made.
Following the incident, the ministry has tightened security measures to prevent breaches of national documents.
Dlamini revealed that the ministry was now conducting periodic audits of its systems to identify loopholes and monitor for breaches.

He added that when suspicious activity is identified, the ministry swiftly conducts internal investigations and ropes in relevant law enforcement agencies where necessary. This, he said, was meant to prevent further illegal issuing of national documents.
Assured Progress
Pertaining to the case involving Matlala, Dlamini assured that the ministry was continuing with internal investigations and once substantial information was available, it would be disclosed to the public.
Recently, National Commissioner of Police Manoma Vusi Masango revealed that a team of investigators had been assembled after receiving communication from his South African counterparts confirming that Matlala allegedly possessed local documents issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
