LAW students from the University of Eswatini (UNESWA) have taken a groundbreaking step by launching their own student-led law firm, Mamba and Associates Law Firm.
The firm is dedicated to assisting university students with legal guidance and representation, particularly in academic and disciplinary matters.
Founded by Mncobi Mamba, the initiative aims to bridge the gap in access to legal support for students in Eswatini. “UNESWA Law students met and decided to form this law firm after recognising the growing need for student representation in court cases,” Mamba said. He added that many students faced legal challenges but lacked the financial means to hire professional lawyers.
The firm primarily focuses on cases involving academic appeals, misconduct and other disciplinary issues.
Mamba said their goal was to support fellow students, not to make profit.
“We understand students may not have the money. This is not a money-making scheme. We handle each case individually and do not have a fixed price. In fact, we’ve already assisted three students so far. As the firm continues to grow, it is expected to inspire similar movements in other institutions, fostering a culture of peer-to-peer legal support and empowerment in Eswatini’s academic landscape,” he explained.
Mamba and Associates is open to helping not only UNESWA students but also students from other colleges and institutions across the country. The firm offers affordable support, with what Mamba refers to as ‘friendly rates’, and it sometimes provides pro-bono services, which means legal service provided voluntarily by law firms, depending on the circumstances. This initiative is a promising example of students using their education to make an impact, in their communities.
