Eswatini’s finest are preparing to take on the might of African football in the prestigious TotalEnergies CAF Interclub Competitions.

MTN Premier League champions Nsingizini Hotspurs and seasoned continental campaigners Royal Leopard have officially confirmed their participation with the Eswatini Football Association (EFA).

This marks another historic moment for Nsingizini Hotspurs, who earned their CAF Champions League spot after clinching their maiden Premier League title in spectacular fashion earlier this year. The Shiselweni-based side could potentially face African giants such as Orlando Pirates (South Africa), Black Bulls (Mozambique), Gaborone United (Botswana) or Lioli (Lesotho) in the preliminary round.

Royal Leopard Return to the Continental Stage
Joining them on the continental journey is Royal Leopard, the experienced police side who earned a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup after lifting the prestigious Ingwenyama Cup earlier this year.

EFA Confirms Applications
EFA Communications and Marketing Officer Muzi ‘Rhoo’ Radebe confirmed that both clubs had officially expressed their intention to represent the Kingdom of Eswatini on the continental stage.

“The clubs have communicated with EFA on their interest in being part of this year’s CAF competitions, and we are currently assisting them with all the necessary requirements. We will confirm their participation once they have completed all the CAF requirements,” said Radebe.

CAF Requirements and Road Ahead
The CAF Interclub Competitions are scheduled to kick off in August, with the registration deadline set for June 30.

However, the road to African glory will not be easy. Participating clubs are required to secure CAF Club Licensing certification, which proves that they meet the Confederation’s strict standards in areas such as:

– Club governance and structure
– Stadium infrastructure
– Technical and coaching standards

Notably, club coaches must possess a valid CAF coaching license. Failure to meet this requirement will disqualify coaches from sitting on the bench during matches. Likewise, clubs that fail to comply with licensing criteria face potential disqualification from the tournament.
