Capital city giants Mbabane Highlanders risk losing nine of their key players for free, as their contracts have expired.
This publication has gathered from reliable sources that first-choice goalkeeper Qiniso ‘Kati’ Nyawo, who joined the club from Young Buffaloes at the beginning of the previous campaign, tops the list.
Other players who are out of contract include Siwakhile Shongwe, DR Congo forward Fabrice Mopina, Delisa Gama, Ndumiso Mabuza, Vusumuzi Vilakati, Thabo Langa, longest-serving foreigner Kenneth Moloto, and industrious midfielder Siphamandla Maseko.
These players could be eligible to sign pre-contracts with other clubs if the high-profile side does not renew their deals soon. Meanwhile, Sihle ‘Mbhalaza’ Mkhonta, Sifiso Maseko, and Sibahle Sukati were on loan from Manzini Wanderers and Ludzeludze Killers, respectively.
Mbabane Highlanders’ Public Relations Officer, Lington Gule confirmed that several players’ contracts were nearing expiration. “We are aware that several of our players’ contracts are expiring or have expired. Management will engage them soon.
However, we are still awaiting a report from our technical team, which is due at the end of this month.
That report will guide us on which players to keep or release. We do not want a large squad for next season,” he said.
Gule also added that the technical bench headed by Malawian-born coach Meck Mwase would be retained following their good performance last season.
The capital city giants will be aiming for an improved performance in the new season after finishing ninth in the 2024/25 MTN Premier League log standings. The club has also revitalised its branding under the new regime.
