A woman has been convicted after she unlawfully took her boyfriend’s cellphone and went through his WhatsApp messages.

Bezile Mohale appeared before Pigg’s Peak Magistrate Innocent Mahlalela where she was charged with contravening Section 77 of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act of 2018.

Mohale is said to have taken Mbuso Mamba’s Samsung mobile phone valued at E2 000.

The incident occurred yesterday at Glen Township in Pigg’s Peak.

The accused pleaded guilty and told the court she did not think that this would escalate into a criminal matter.

She said she had hoped that they would talk this over with her boyfriend but unfortunately he decided to rope in the police, which led to her arrest.

Mohale apologised for her actions and she was regretting what she did.

She said she had just lost a job and was waiting for a call from Mbabane where she has been promised a domestic job position.

“I would like to ask the court to be lenient with me as I am a mother of two children aged seven and one years who depend on me. I will never repeat such an offence in future,” she said.

Magistrate Mahlalela sentenced her to nine months behind bars or a fine option of E1 000, which was wholly suspended for a period of three years with the condition that she does not commit a similar offence.

Mahlalela reminded her that she committed a very serious offence and should count herself lucky that she got a lenient sentence.

He further advised her to stay away from such behaviour as it could cost her freedom next time.

Mohale is the same woman who was arrested and charged after allegedly posting and sharing her suitor’s nude pictures on WhatsApp in 2024.

That matter is pending judgment before court.

She is alleged to have posted Khulis’umuzi Mkhatjwa’s nudes on social media which she had taken while they were on a video call.

Mohale is alleged to have even shared the pictures with the complainant’s baby mama.

She is charged with contravening Section 34 (2) of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act of 2018.

Mohale is alleged to have failed to delete or remove the pictures when asked by both the complainant and the police.
