United States Embassy Charge d’ Affairs Caitlin Piper says the significant transition of the United States of America did not signal a retreat, but engagement with intention.

This was during the US Embassy’s commemoration of the 249th anniversary of American independence held at the US Embassy offices in Ezulwini yesterday.
Prime Minister Russell Dlamini, Minister of Tinkhundla Administration and Development Sikhumbuzo Dlamini and Minister of Public Service Mabulala Maseko; senior government officials, diplomats, business leaders and civil society representatives attended the event.

His Majesty King Mswati III was represented by Prince David.
Making his remarks, Piper said under President Trump’s leadership, the United States was pursuing modern, two-way partnerships based on mutual respect and shared economic interests.

This approach, she said, recognised that true and lasting progress comes from collaboration where both sides benefit.
She said in every chapter of their national story, change had tested and defined them. “Today, the United States is again navigating a period of significant transition.

We are witnessing bold shifts in economic policy, trade relationships, border security, and America’s approach to global engagement,” remarked Piper. She said these changes reflected a democratic process that was vibrant and alive.
Piper shared that by fostering trade and encouraging investment, they aimed to empower their partners to build stronger and more resilient economies.
She said that meant new opportunities to create jobs, improve infrastructure and lift communities out of poverty with dignity and self-determination intact.

Piper said it was a partnership rooted in the belief that when they grow together, they thrived. Meanwhile, His Majesty said Eswatini reflected on the momentous events and significance of July 4, 1776, when the US declared its independence and set forth the ideals of liberty, equality and the pursuit of happiness.
He said the values had inspired the U S’s great nation to strive for freedom, democracy and prosperity. The king said yesterday was a powerful reminder of the enduring strength of the American spirit and the sacrifices made for a more just and equitable society.

“As we celebrate this day with you, we are reminded of the importance of unity, resilience and the shared aspiration for a better future for all. This is what independence is all about; ensuring every citizen enjoys the benefit of what the heroes have fought for,” added the king.
