GOLF – IT was a dazzling display of skill as Swaziland Building Society’s (SBS) dynamic duo of Lusha Dlamini and Melizwe Fakudze stormed to victory in the second edition of the Bankers Golf Challenge held at the Ezulwini Golf and Country Club yesterday.

The annual event, which has quickly cemented its place as one of the most anticipated dates on the corporate golfing calendar, drew an impressive field of 56 golfers, representing eight leading financial institutions, including hosts FNB, Standard Bank, EswatiniBank, Letsego, SBS, FSRA, Nedbank and Central Bank of Eswatini.

Designed to foster unity and encourage professional networking in a relaxed environment, the tournament blends the competitive edge of golf with the social ease of a business retreat.
And it was the SBS pair who proved too hot to handle, showing poise and precision as they carded an exceptional 55-point score, walking away with the coveted top prize.

Their chemistry on the course was undeniable and their calculated approach to each hole was ultimately what separated them from the chasing pack.
Hot on their heels was Team Letsego, featuring Mongi Dlamini and Nokwanda Mavimbela, who fell just short with a commendable 54 points a mere single point shy of glory.

The race for third place was equally tight with two teams finishing on 53 points. The FNB pairing of Ncamiso Dlamini and Siphokazi Mamba edged their way to third place on countback, narrowly pipping the Central Bank of Eswatini’s (CBE) Wandile Maduna and Fikile Groening to the podium.
Speaking moments after being crowned champions, a beaming Lusha Dlamini expressed delight at their triumph, praising both the level of competition and the spirit of the event.

“We are over the moon to be crowned champions after such an enjoyable day. The tournament is not just about winning but about building relationships and sharing ideas with fellow professionals in the banking sector. The conversations we have had today have been as rewarding as the golf itself.”

One of the tournament organisers, FNB’s Wendy Snowden, echoed Dlamini’s sentiments and highlighted the broader purpose of the initiative.
“This challenge was born out of a desire to create a more inclusive space within the golfing scene, especially for women in finance while also providing a relaxed platform for business dialogue.”
