Liqoqo Chairman Paul Dlamini says public office requires upright and accountable individuals, especially as they are often entrusted with public funds.

This was stated yesterday following a meeting between the Eswatini National Council (Liqoqo) and the Eswatini Commission on Human Rights & Public Administration/Integrity, held at Nkhanini on Wednesday. The Liqoqo members are continuing the process of declaring their assets and liabilities, which began a few weeks ago.

Dlamini emphasised that declaring assets is a critical part of being a responsible public official. “We are working for Their Majesties and are always in the forefront. This means we must be trustworthy and lead by example. Declaring assets is the right thing to do,” he said.

He stressed the importance of maintaining transparency not only in official duties but also in everyday life. “As custodians of public funds, we must ensure accountability at all times,” he added. The Liqoqo members fulfilled their constitutional obligation under Section 241(1), which mandates all public office holders to submit a written declaration of all property, assets, liabilities, or any benefits gained, either directly or indirectly, to the Integrity Commission.
