OVER 50 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) is propelled by consumers.

Business Eswatini Chief Executive Officer (CEO) E. Nathi Dlamini made this revelation during the Made in Eswatini Consumer Choice Awards held at Backenhill Lodge on Friday.

Speaking in his capacity as Chairman of the eight-member jury, he said this effectively lends credence and importance to the Consumer Choice Awards. He also noted that consumer spending makes up the country’s GDP. Sharing a brief insight of what their role was as the jury from each of their respective fields, Dlamini said each jurist brought in their expertise to play a critical role in evaluating the nominees.

He said not only did they look at the quality and innovation of products, but they also looked at the entities from the customer’s perspective.
That being the case, he said issues of customer delight, brand equity and integrity were aspects that could not be ignored in the grand scheme of processes. Dlamini added that picking winners for these categories was not easy as all of their nominees displayed excellence and ingenuity in their business approach.

He said the winners’ victory came with huge expectations from the public, and they trusted winners to continue to push the envelope of innovation and excellence to new heights, hence bear the symbol of excellence badge as an emblem of trust, distinction, and authentic local quality. “We as the jury were guided by strict industry-specific benchmarks to arrive at the winners.

All the winners exemplified prerequisite traits for entrepreneurship and business acumen.
Furthermore, they all demonstrated fortitude, grit and the desire to succeed. Now to those who will win today, congratulations to you,” the chairman said.
