SOUTH African gospel star Oncemore Six was the highlight of the night at the Mavuso Trade and Exhibition Centre on Saturday where the sixth edition of The Mother of All Gospel Shows (MOAGS) took place.
The event, which has grown to become one of the most anticipated gospel festivals in the country, lived up to its reputation. There were over 4 000 attendees who gathered for praise and worship at the main hall.
Oncemore Six delivered a powerful and spirit-filled performance that left the crowd emotional. At one point, during his performance the audience, deeply touched, knelt down, cried, and prayed engulfed with emotions. It was a moment of deep connection between the artist, the crowd, and God.
After that emotional break, Oncemore Six returned with one of his most loved songs, Sizobalekela Kuwe, which had everyone on their feet, singing along with passion and power. His one-hour set included other fan favourites like Malibe Iphung elimnandi, and fans showed great excitement as they sang word to word with him. This was Oncemore Six’s second performance on the MOAGS stage after he performed last year and he has become a crowd favourite.
Sphiwo Ndoni also impressed with a strong performance. During his rendition fans shouted for his famous Yelala song. He stayed true to his plan and performed hits like Tive Temhlaba, Waze Watsembeka, and Insindziso Iyangisebenzela. His set showed his growth as an artist and his ability to stay focused even when under pressure from the crowd. The man behind the success of the show, Nduduzo Matse, performed just after midnight; he gave a performance that proved why he was one of the country’s top gospel stars. He was backed by gospel stars such as Mpendulo ‘Mzayoni’ Tsabedze and Banele Dlamini. Another memorable moment came from South African talented musician Sibusiso ‘Sbu Noah’ Mthembu.
Though he performed only worship songs and not a single praise track, the crowd was still moved. Sbu Noah also had a chance to share the stage with legendary gospel artist, Sipho ‘Big Fish’ Makhabane.
They performed one of ‘Big Fish’s songs Hlala Nami Jesu. When his set ended, many fans rushed towards the stage, saying his performance had ended too soon. Though his time was up, their reaction showed how much they enjoyed his presence.
Another South African star Mpumi Mtsweni was a crowd favourite. Her beautiful voice and spiritual songs made a strong impact, showing why she continues to gain fans in the country. The moment she climbed the stage, singing her song titled Sohlangana Egalile, the crowd went crazy. They rushed towards the stage and security had to be beefed up as fans wanted to witness her performance from the red zones.
This year’s show was supported by Jonokuhle, Destiny Events, Dixie’s and VOC. The MCs of the night, Mnqobi Tsabedze and Mzwakhe ‘Tjovitjo’ Khumalo, kept the energy high and the crowd entertained between performances.
Other artists who performed included Linda Dlamini, Lucia Kate, Big-Bend We Praise and Make Siwela.
Matse appreciated all the people who came to the event. He said, from the first act to the last, the ninth edition of The Mother of All Gospel Shows proved to be a celebration of music, faith, and unity. “The mix of local and international talent, the high-quality performances, and the emotional moments made it a night to remember,” Matse said.
“One thing is clear gospel music is alive and well in the country and this show continues to be a shining light for fans of the genre,” he said.
Matse further stated that with each passing year, the Mother of All Gospel Shows keeps getting better.
