Senzo Ndlovu 42nd minute

SOCCER – Nsingizini Hotspurs tightened their grip at the top of the MTN Premier League table following a narrow 1-0 victory away against Ubombo Sugar at Mayaluka Stadium.
A 42nd-minute strike from South African international Senzo Ndlovu was enough to seal all three points for the Shiselweni-based outfit and maintain their momentum in the title race.
The league leaders started the encounter with intent, carving out several early opportunities to break the deadlock. The most notable of these chances fell to Daniel Okunremeta in the 23rd minute; after latching onto a well-weighted pass from Sinenkosi ‘China’ Dlamini, Okunremeta found himself in a promising position but unfortunately fired his effort over the crossbar.
Despite the missed opportunity, the visitors continued to look the superior side throughout the opening period, eventually finding their breakthrough just three minutes before the interval.
The decisive moment arrived when attacking winger Thubelihle Mavuso delivered a precise cross into the danger zone. Senzo Ndlovu, the former AmaZulu forward, rose highest to connect with a free header, clinically beating goalkeeper Innocent Adja to send the defending champions into the half-time break with a slender lead.
The second half saw a shift in momentum as the ‘Sugar Boys’ slowly but surely found their rhythm in search of an equaliser. Their best chance to level the scores came in the 60th minute when Majahasibili ‘Giggs’ Ndlovu found space to strike, though his effort lacked the necessary accuracy to trouble the scoreline.

At the opposite end, Nsingizini remained a threat on the counter-attack, and Senzo Ndlovu nearly doubled his tally after a swift break, only to see his shot whistle wide of the post.
Ubombo Sugar refused to surrender quietly and continued to press for a way back into the match. Innocent Dlamini came close with a speculative long-range effort after the visitors were dispossessed in a dangerous area, but the strike failed to hit the target.
As the clock wound down, the pressure mounted on Van Rooyen Magagula’s men. Their hopes of a comeback were dealt a significant blow late in the game when their overlapping left-back was penalised for a deliberate handball on the edge of the area after the goalkeeper had been dispossessed in a moment of defensive uncertainty.
When the tall figure of referee Thulani Sibandze finally blew the whistle to signal the end of the 90 minutes, it confirmed maximum points for Nsingizini.
For the travelling supporters, the performance served as a commanding reminder that their side was ready and able to defend their crown. However, as the celebrations begin, a lingering question remains for the Shiselweni side: can they sustain this level of consistency week after week with 11 crucial matches still remaining in the campaign?
