A woman of Ndzingeni was found dead in a garden at her home allegedly after ingesting a deadly substance.
Simangele Vilakati was found dead in a banana plantation by her husband early in the morning on Sunday.
According to a family member, the woman woke up early on Sunday and told them that she was going to her garden where she wanted to attend to her seedlings.
He said while he was sleeping, the woman called him to come and help her with the water system. He then went to one of the houses where he found a red candle lit.
He added that he then hurriedly went back to the other side of the garden. The man explained that he then called his daughter and asked where the woman was.

He said his daughter told him that she was by the banana plantation.
He said he rushed there and found her lying down unconscious.
He said they tried to make her drink cooking oil with the aim of easing the effectiveness of the poison, but she only took two sips and died after that.
“We found the packet of the poisonous substance opened and a tumbler next to her body. That is why we believe that she committed suicide using it,” he said.
He mentioned that there were no problems that he was aware of that could have led to his wife committing suicide.
The woman took her life when the world was celebrating Mother’s Day.
Acting Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Inspector Mazwi Ndzimandze confirmed the matter.
