MTFONGWANENI Member of Parliament Nathi Hlophe says the legalisation of cannabis in the country should be approached with the angle of how it can benefit the country rather than its negative effects.

He said although some stakeholders had expressed that legalising cannabis would result in its value deteriorating, among other issues, the country needs it. Speaking during the ministry of commerce, industry and trade first-quarter performance report yesterday, Hlophe said the issue of Cannabis legalisation should be intentionally discussed rather than beating around the bush about it.

He implored Minister Manqoba Khumalo to assist in the matter.
“Tsine nawe siyashumayela sobabili so ungasho kutsi sengiwile. We need to engage and ascertain how the legalisation of the Cannabis can aid the country. Sesikhale kakhulu njengalenye Indvodza ebhay’bhelini,” he stated.
Hlophe added that a lot of Emaswati were being arrested for dealing in dagga in neighbouring South Africa.

“Baboshwa onkhe lamalanga. LamaSwati siyatsandza aphele kuboshwa? Asiyangayibuki lendzaba ngeliso lesihogo but ngeliso lekuphila,” added Hlophe.
