AWARD-WINNING singer Lady Sphesh has been nominated in two categories at the Shining Stars Africa Awards set for March 7 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The Shining Stars Africa Awards celebrate excellence, creativity and innovation across the continent and will host a Grand Gala Night in Kigali, bringing together leading artists, producers and executives from Africa and the diaspora.

Lady Sphesh, born Siphesihle Shongwe, is nominated for Best Star Female Artist of the Year 2025/26 and Best Star Songwriter of the Year 2025/26. The recognition adds to her growing international profile as one of Africa’s fastest-rising music exports.

The singer, known for her powerful vocals and heartfelt songwriting, first gained wide attention with her hit Sikhiya Senhliziyo, which strengthened her presence beyond the country.

Her latest nominations place her among Africa’s leading female creatives recognised for both performance and lyrical depth.

“This is a huge international nod. I am honoured. This means the brand is recognised even in international markets. This is amazing,” she said, describing the milestone as defining for her career.

Public voting opened on February 12 and will close on March 6; a day before the ceremony. Supporters have been encouraged to vote through the official Shining Stars Africa Awards website as the competition intensifies ahead of the gala night.

Her recent continental run has been marked by major wins. In 2025 she was crowned Best Zikomo Female Artist of the Year Southern Africa in Zambia and Best MVAA Young Achiever of the Year in Nigeria, affirming her steady rise on the African stage.

Reflecting on the journey, she noted that the double nomination signals growth beyond borders.

“This shows that the work we are putting in is reaching people across Africa,” she stated, adding that the moment motivates her to continue raising the country’s flag.
