LESOTHO’S King Letsie III says the 40/58 celebrations are a shining testament to His Majesty King Mswati III’s enduring and selfless leadership, resilience and devotion to the nation.
He said in an era defined by complex political, economic and social challenges, His Majesty’s steady leadership had been indispensable.
King Letsie III made these remarks on behalf of the visiting Heads of State and governments who graced the Ruby Jubilee celebrations that were held at Somhlolo National Stadium on Friday.
The visiting Heads of State who were present on Friday included Presidents of the Republic of Mozambique, Botswana and Zimbabwe, Daniel Chapo, Duma Boko and Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Other distinguished guests included former South African president Jacob Zuma, former Madagascar president Andry Rajoelina, former president of the Republic of Congo Joseph Kabila, and Misuzulu kaZwelithini.
The Kingdoms of Eswatini and Lesotho share a close relationship built on shared history as former British protectorates, monarchical systems and collaborations through regional blocs such as the Southern African Development Community and the Southern African Customs Union.

According to King Letsie, King Mswati III’s leadership has provided continuity, calm and a clear moral compass at a time when decisive principled action is required to safeguard the nation’s unity, stability and its aspirations for shared prosperity.
Therefore, he said it was fitting that the celebrations should not only be merely about recognising achievements, but to also express collective gratitude for King Mswati III’s unwavering commitment to service and forward-looking leadership.
“To serve faithfully on the throne for four decades is a rare and extraordinary achievement.
“It speaks to Your Majesty’s dedication, steadfastness and noble commitment to preserving local cultural heritage which had been entrusted to your custody by your forebearers, while shaping the kingdom’s future for generations to come,” stated King Letsie.
He further mentioned that the king’s willingness to support and encourage investment in critical national development endeavours had strengthened the nation’s foundation for long-term progress. In this regard, King Letsie congratulated His Majesty and the nation.
On behalf of the visiting Heads of State and governments, King Letsie expressed his wish for the warm relations and bonds of friendship shared by Eswatini and the other countries to continue flourishing and remain a source of strength and pride for generations to come.
“We reaffirm our commitment to deepening regional cooperation and to jointly addressing shared challenges in a spirit of solidarity and friendship,” King Letsie said.
He also emphasised that the king’s birthday was a special occasion not only for Emaswati, but for all his friends across the globe. Therefore, he said as they joined in the celebrations of the kingdom’s milestones, they also reflected with pride on Eswatini’s past achievements and they look ahead with confidence knowing that His Majesty’s reign will continue to embody wisdom, altruism and purpose for leadership.
“We are confident that Your Majesty’s exemplary leadership will help to nurture the next generation of leaders who will continue to uphold cohesion and strive for economic opportunities for all.
“We wish Your Majesty many more years of joy and peace in devoted service to the people of the Kingdom of Eswatini,” King Letsie said, adding that the celebrations should also serve as a platform for the country’s friends to renew their pledge to foster unity, strengthen regional economics and promote sustainable development across Southern Africa.
King Letsie also expressed his wish for King Mswati III’s reign to be guided by the spirit of love and kindness for his people and to forever remain a source of unity, peace and prosperity for the Kingdom of Eswatini.
