His Majesty King Mswati III has commissioned the much-anticipated nationwide recruitment exercise of the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force (UEDF).
The King, as Commander-in-Chief, launched the recruitment process yesterday through Second Lieutenant Hashukile Motsa during a press briefing held at the Army Headquarters in Nokwane.

This initiative marks a renewed commitment to strengthening the country’s military while also creating job opportunities for the youth.
Youth Invited to Apply
The King invited all Emaswati aged 18 to 35 who are physically fit and possess national identity documents to participate in the exercise across all 59 tinkhundla centres.
The recruitment begins on Saturday, September 20, at Mafutseni Inkhundla at 8:00am and is expected to conclude on November 29.
Transparent and Structured Process
UEDF Army Commander General Mashikilisane ‘Hulumende’ Fakudze said successful candidates will go through several stages, including:
-
Vetting
-
Medical check-ups
-
Training at Mbuluzi Barracks Schools of Infantry
He noted that a trusted recruitment committee—appointed on merit—has been tasked with overseeing the process.
“Their credibility and integrity is well-known in the army, so we are confident they will conduct the exercise without difficulty,” Fakudze said.
The committee will work closely with community leaders and community police to ensure transparency and prevent foul play.
Policies Against Malpractice
Colonel Thando Dlamini assured the nation that the UEDF has strict policies guiding recruitment. Departments within the army are mandated to handle any malpractice that may arise.

“There are measures in place to deal with cases of malpractice, hence the process will be fair,” he said.
