His Majesty King Mswati III has called for joint efforts to end ongoing conflicts, urging nations to prioritise development and economic recovery.

The King made the call yesterday at the Lozitha Royal Palace as he received credentials from a group of five new ambassadors from European Union (EU) Member States.

The ambassadors were Rasa Jankauskaite from Lithuania, Attila György Horváth from Hungary, Satu Lassila from Finland, Vladimír Grácz from the Slovak Republic, and Gabriele Annis from Italy, who presented their letters of credence as a collective — a gesture the King welcomed as a sign of strengthening ties between Eswatini and the EU.

In his address, the King expressed deep concern over the difficult times marked by global conflicts, noting the tragic loss of life and displacement of people. He emphasised the need for the international community to unite under the UN Charter to find peaceful solutions.

“It is concerning when we see conflicts, especially around the world. A lot of people are being killed and some have left their loved ones and their home. We wish that one day we will solve these problems and put the conflict behind us so that we can be able to focus on development,” the King stated.

He highlighted that post-COVID-19, many economies faced significant setbacks. He called on partners like the EU to provide support, noting the EU’s substantial contributions to Eswatini’s economy in sectors such as agriculture, education, infrastructure, and support for youth and women.

The King also commended the EU for its support of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific (ACP) agreements, which he said demonstrated a strong commitment to growing African economies.

He expressed a desire to sit down with the new ambassadors and outline detailed plans for future collaboration, aspiring to learn from the EU’s development strategies to help Eswatini achieve its economic goals.

The King concluded by referencing the African Union’s Agenda 2063, a vision for a prosperous and peaceful Africa, and stated that the continent counts on its partners to help realise this dream.
