Green Mamba FC faces a tough start to the new season as star forward Njabulo ‘Magwegwe’ Magagula will be out for the next three months due to a serious knee injury.
Injury Details
The setback occurred during the SADC Correctional Services Sports and Cultural Games in Windhoek, Namibia, a week ago.
“It’s a big blow for us, no doubt about it,” said Green Mamba CEO Mandla Sibiya.
Magwegwe, known for his flair and finishing, will miss the 2025 8 Bet Trade Fair Cup and the opening rounds of the MTN Premier League.
Rehabilitation Plan
The forward has been forced to skip the team’s pre-season camp in South Africa, with medical staff implementing a strict rehabilitation program.
“Yes, Magwegwe is in treatment for a nagging knee injury. We expect him to be out for three months. We wish him a speedy recovery,” Sibiya confirmed.
Team Changes and Challenges
The injury comes during a period of change for Inyok’eluhlazana:
-
Head coach Ernest Mavuso recently left for Mbabane Highlanders AM FC.
-
Bongani Mhlongo, formerly of Luyengo Foxes, takes over as head coach, assisted by Sandile Lulane.

Green Mamba finished third in last season’s MTN Premier League and suffered an early exit from the Ingwenyama Cup, losing to fierce rivals Royal Leopard.
With Magwegwe sidelined, the correctional services outfit must dig deep to keep their early-season ambitions alive.
