DeltaPay has secured a full Mobile Money Service Provider licence from the Central Bank of Eswatini, a milestone that positions the company to deepen integration with the national switch and simplify payments and disbursements for businesses across banks and wallets.
For businesses, this means fewer intermediaries, reduced reconciliation complexity and a more streamlined way to move money while remaining focused on core operations.
The milestone carries significance beyond compliance. In digital payments, trust is infrastructure. DeltaPay’s leadership said the licence validates the company’s internal controls, including anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorism financing (CTF) and know-your-customer (KYC) processes, as well as broader operational standards.
“People trust us with their money,” said Koch, adding that central bank approval reflects a level of professionalism that unlocks DeltaPay’s next phase of growth.
For the company, the licence is also a key requirement in building trust with corporate clients. Koch noted that day-to-day operations will not change significantly, as the business had already aligned itself with licensing standards during its sandbox phase.
However, the major shift lies in how DeltaPay can now engage with larger clients, partners and merchants who require working with a fully licensed provider.
The development aligns with DeltaPay’s broader market positioning of offering simple, secure and affordable payment solutions tailored for emaSwati.
Koch said the next phase will focus on scaling usage, improving merchant tools and refining the overall customer experience.
“Fundamentally, to the end customer, cash is free,” he said. “So if you want a system that is competitive to cash, it has to be at least free.”
DeltaPay is also introducing additional incentives to encourage digital payments. At participating merchants, users earn 0.4 per cent cashback on purchases, providing further motivation to shift everyday transactions from cash to digital platforms.
With QR payments, cashback incentives and enhanced business-focused tools in development, DeltaPay is transitioning from proving its model to expanding its role within Eswatini’s payments ecosystem.
