Eswatini has made history at the 11th International Best Practice Competition (IBPC) 2025, where Datamatics Eswatini emerged victorious.
Representing both Eswatini and Africa, Datamatics Eswatini qualified for the second round of the IBPC, joining over 100 organisations worldwide. Led by directors Sibusiso Baartjies and Thokozane Ginindza, the company showcased African excellence after winning the first round and now the second.
The achievement not only raised Eswatini’s flag high, but also carried the African flag with pride, purpose, and innovation.
Impact and recognition
Datamatics’ story of impact and continuous improvement has drawn international attention.
The company was nurtured by the Regulatory and Quality Infrastructure Development (RQID) unit under the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Trade, which previously recognised them at the Eswatini Quality Awards, where they won the 2024 Entrepreneur of the Year Award (EYA).
Baartjies credited the Small Enterprises Development Company (SEDCO) for exposing them to the Eswatini Quality Awards and the IBPC.
He explained that in the first round, Datamatics completed a detailed questionnaire, which was assessed by a panel of judges. After advancing, the second round was held virtually, where the company responded to questions on its programmes, innovations, and impact, supported by evidence.
One of the showcased products was the Information Management System (IMS) developed for the Incomati and Maputo Watercourse Commission (INMACOM) to manage the three member states — Eswatini, Mozambique, and South Africa.
Commitment to excellence
Baartjies said he was humbled by the recognition:
“We are honoured to see Datamatics Eswatini recognised on a global stage. This award reflects our team’s dedication to developing GIS and MIS solutions that tackle critical water management challenges.”
He further thanked SEDCO, the Ministry of Commerce, and other stakeholders for their continued support, adding that the milestone will inspire more innovation and collaboration for sustainable development across the region.
Meanwhile, SEDCO praised Datamatics for “excellence beyond borders,” congratulating the company for advancing and winning round two of the IBPC.
“Your dedication to quality, innovation, and impact will not only develop Eswatini but also showcase Africa’s brilliance. This is more than a milestone — it is a national victory. Eswatini to the world, Africa to the world,” read the statement.
