Young Buffaloes have signalled intent with a double win in Secunda, South Africa over the weekend.
The team has sent a clear warning to their rivals ahead of the 2025 8Bet Trade Fair Cup after wrapping up a win against Secunda M Stars at the Risko Fakude Stadium on Saturday.
The South African side plays in the ABC Motsepe League.
They won 3-1 in the second match before their 4-2 victory in the second fixture later in the afternoon.
Buffaloes are the defending champions of the prestigious tournament.
They played the two friendly matches to sharpen the squad ahead of the cup competition that kicks off on 30 August at Mavuso Sports Centre.
In the morning game, Buffaloes took control early on, with their pressing game forcing errors from the home side.
Their superior fitness and tactical discipline paid off as they scored three goals while Secunda M Stars managed to secure a consolation strike.
The afternoon clash was more open with both sides rotating their squads.
However, Buffaloes still proved too strong.
Speaking after the games, Buffaloes Chief Executive Officer Sandile Gwebu expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance, highlighting the importance of these fixtures in preparing for the demanding schedule ahead.
“These games will play a key role in fine-tuning our squad as we gear up for the upcoming tournament. The players needed this test and it gave our coaches a chance to assess combinations and match fitness. We are very encouraged by squad’s response,” he said.
The wins will be a huge morale boost for the defending champions as they turn their focus to the 2025 8Bet Trade Fair Cup where they will open their campaign against newly promoted side Malanti Chiefs.
Buffaloes will enter the tournament as one of the fan favourites following their impressive pre-season form.
