The Ingwenyama Cup 2026 officially roars into life this weekend as the Round of 32 gets underway, marking the start of another chapter in the country’s most prestigious knockout football competition.

With matches scheduled across several venues on Saturday and Sunday, the opening weekend brings together traditional heavyweights, rising challengers and community-based teams from across the country. As always in knockout football, there is no room for error, as one result can abruptly end a team’s campaign.

One of the marquee fixtures comes on Sunday at Mavuso Sports Centre, where Manzini rivals Manzini Sundowns and Moneni Pirates lock horns in a local derby. With both sides hailing from the country’s football hub, the clash carries added pride and bragging rights, making it one of the most anticipated encounters of the opening round.

Later on Sunday at the same venue, Mbabane Highlanders AM return to familiar territory when they take on Lozitha Spurs. The ‘Black Bull’ were eliminated at this stage of the competition last season at Mavuso Sports Centre by the same club, and Sunday’s fixture offers a chance for redemption as they look to rewrite an uncomfortable chapter.

Saturday’s programme is equally rich in intrigue.

Defending champions Royal Leopard begin their title defence against Usuthu Liverpool at Mayaluka Stadium, while serial winners Mbabane Swallows face Richmond Aces in a tie that pits experience against ambition. Manzini Wanderers, another established force in local football, will also be in action as they meet NFD side Madlenya FC at KaLanga Technical Centre, aiming to avoid an early upset.

Green Mamba, champions in 2020 and 2024, open their campaign against Sidvwashini United at Prince of Wales Sports Ground, as they look to assert themselves once again in the knockout competition. With several former champions involved from the first weekend, the Round of 32 promises compelling football across the country.

The Ingwenyama Cup continues to showcase the depth of local football, offering smaller clubs a platform to challenge the elite and create memorable moments. In a competition defined by fine margins, belief and discipline often prove decisive.

Off the field, the rewards remain significant. The 2025/26 Ingwenyama Cup champions will receive E1.45 million, with runners-up pocketing E650 000. The football sponsorship stands at E3.8 million, while an additional E1.2 million is set aside for the cultural competition, bringing the total annual sponsorship to E5 million.
