THE Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) has been recognised for its excellence in corporate ethical procurement and supply.
The entity was awarded a Certificate of Achievement by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) in recognition of its successful attainment of the Corporate Ethical Procurement and Supply standard.
This year’s CIPS Africa Conference was held at Houghton Hotel in Johannesburg last week.
EEC Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager Khaya Mavuso said the certification was valid for 12 months from the date of award.
Mavuso affirmed EEC’s steadfast commitment to ethical, transparent, sustainable procurement and supply chain management.

He said the CIPS Corporate Ethical Procurement and Supply certification was a globally recognised benchmark that celebrates organisations which operate at the highest ethical standards in procurement processes.

He said it signified that EEC implemented comprehensive measures to combat unethical practices such as bribery, fraud, corruption, and exploitation while championing responsible sourcing, fair supplier engagement, and compliance with international best practices.
He added that the milestone directly supported the company’s Vutsela Corporate Strategy, which prioritises integrity, transparency, and operational excellence in every facet of EEC’s business leadership.
Mavuso added it reinforced the organisation’s leadership role in setting the standard for ethical business conduct in the country’s energy sector while building trust with customers, suppliers, regulators, and the broader community.
“As part of this achievement EEC has formally committed to adopting ethical principles. The company has adopted the CIPS Corporate Code of Ethics and ensured that its internal corporate code fully aligns with all key principles of the CIPS Code, with no significant omissions.
“With regards to staff ethical competency, 100% of staff with responsibility for sourcing, supplier selection, and supplier management have successfully completed the CIPS Ethical Procurement and Supply Test. EEC has also agreed to be listed on the CIPS Corporate Ethical Register and to observe all conditions for use of the CIPS Corporate Ethical Procurement Mark as defined in the official usage guide,” said Mavuso.
Speaking on the achievement, EEC Managing Director, Ernest Mkhonta, stated that the recognition by CIPS was a powerful endorsement of the values lived by EEC.
Under the Vutsela Corporate Strategy, he said, ethical procurement was a pillar of their business approach because they believed that the way they conduct business was as important as the results they achieved.
Mkhonta also reiterated their commitment to the highest possible standards—from adopting the CIPS Corporate Code of Ethics, ensuring all procurement professionals were certified in ethical practices, to making their ethical standing publicly visible on the CIPS Corporate Ethical Register.
“This certificate reflects the dedication of our people and challenges us to uphold and exceed these standards in the years to come. EEC acknowledges and thanks its dedicated employees, partners, and suppliers for making this achievement possible. As the company continues to expand its operations and serve the nation, it remains resolute in its mission to operate with integrity, uphold ethical standards, and deliver lasting value to all stakeholders,” Mkhonta stated.
