The Sea Robbers are bracing for a new era.
Moneni Pirates have begun the search for a new head coach following the dramatic exit of Caleb Ngwenya, a tenure defined by high hopes, mixed results, and behind-the-scenes tension.
With the dust still settling, four high-profile names have emerged as frontrunners for the coveted post at the helm of one of Eswatini’s most passionate football clubs.
Ennin Leads the Shortlist
Leading the pack is Christopher Ennin, the Ghanaian tactician who is rumoured to be on the brink of a sensational return to the club. Despite his unceremonious departure last season, Ennin appears to be at the top of the shortlist.
However, sources within the club suggest that his possible reappointment has caused division among senior officials.
Other Contenders in the Mix
Another strong contender is former Mbabane Highlanders boss, Selaotse ‘Sly’ Mosala, who recently completed his CAF A License in Congo. The South African coach is no stranger to Eswatini football, having led Highlanders to the CAF Confederation Cup, and later guiding Marumo Gallants (SA) to the competition’s quarterfinals.
Also in the frame is Meck Mwase, current Highlanders head coach, whose contract has officially lapsed, opening the door for a potential move to the Sea Robbers.
Another name being monitored closely is Ikabort Masocha, although his status remains under wraps.
Pirates Playing It Close
Moneni Pirates Marketing and Communications Officer, Tipho Shabalala, was tight-lipped on the coaching developments.
“Nothing has reached my office regarding candidates for the coaching position. Such issues are being handled by the directors of the club,” he stated.
Shabalala did confirm that pre-season training is scheduled to begin next month as preparations get underway for the 2025/26 season.
A Club on the Rise
Under the ambitious leadership of businessman Thulani Xaba, Moneni Pirates finished fifth in the MTN Premier League and were runners-up in the Ingwenyama Cup, narrowly losing 0–1 to Royal Leopard in the final played at Somhlolo National Stadium.
With expectations higher than ever, the appointment of the next head coach could define the route of a club hungry for silverware and aiming for a return to the summit of Eswatini football.
