In a significant development, Mkhuzweni Primary School, have received clean water through MTN’s 21 Days Yello care initiative.

The school will now have access to clean drinking water following the solar powered borehole installation in the school from MTN Eswatini in collaboration with Standard Bank.

This project is part of MTN’s annual corporate social responsibility initiative, known as the 21 Days of Yello Care, which aims to uplift communities and enhance the quality of life for those in need.
For years the school has relied on water drawn from a nearby river, which has been a source of concern for both health and safety.

The school’s chairperson Jenifer DuPont highlighted the persistent issues that arose from using contaminated river water and she said now that they have clean water in the school they are happy that now children will be able to drink clean water without any fear.

Du Pont said all along, the school was using water from the nearest river, which was not clean and many people in the community have suffered from bilharzia and other waterborne diseases because of this unsafe source,” she said.

She said the introduction of boreholes is a transformative step for the school and its surrounding community and she mentioned that the boreholes will provide a reliable supply of fresh water, justifying the health risks associated with drinking contaminated water.

“They will be a great improvement in the overall well-being of the school, allowing the pupils to focus on their education without the burden of health-related issues stopping from unsafe water,” she said.
MTN Sales and Distribution Team member Mnguni Dlamini said water is a necessity and he appreciate MTN Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Wandile Mtshali for coming up with this great initiative and he also appreciated the parents and community who participated through the project.

He said MTN’s 21 Days of Yello Care initiative is built on the foundation of giving back to communities. It encourages employees to volunteer their time and skills toward projects that make a meaningful difference.
Dlamini said this year, partnership with Standard Bank further exemplifies how corporate entities can work together to address pressing social issues.

By investing in essential infrastructure projects, such as the installation of boreholes, these organizations are helping to create sustainable solutions for communities.
Local authorities, educators, and parents have expressed their gratitude for the efforts made by MTN and Standard Bank.

The community has long understood that access to clean water is fundamental not only for health but also for educational attainment and economic development. Clean drinking water improves students’ concentration and attendance rates, contributing to a brighter future for the children of Mkhuzweni.
