HIS Majesty King Mswati III has appealed on behalf of Taiwan, urging that in the spirit of leaving no one behind, the United Nations (UN) should one day recognise Taiwan among the nations capable of making meaningful contributions to the world.
The king said the UN should recognise Taiwan’s potential to contribute meaningfully to the global community, noting its ongoing impact in the kingdom.
He emphasised on the importance of unity and mutual support, reminding the audience of the UN’s principle of leaving no one behind. The king highlighted that the 22 million people of Taiwan remained excluded and expressed hope that the UN would one day acknowledge their role in advancing the wellbeing of all mankind.
The king has consistently used his addresses especially at the UN General Assembly to advocate for Taiwan’s inclusion in the UN system.
“In the spirit of leaving no one behind, we hope the UN will one day see that Taiwan can make a meaningful contribution to humanity,” he said yesterday after a tour of Ezulwini Palazzo with Taiwan President Lai Ching-te.
He added that in Eswatini, Taiwan had contributed to infrastructure development, water systems, rural electrification and the construction of the newly opened International Convention Centre (ICC), Ezulwini Palazzo.
He said Taiwan also contributed funding towards the completion of the state-of-the-art facility, constructing the strategic oil reserve and the Taiwan Technology Innovation and Industrial Park.
