Known for his charisma both on and off the pitch, the confident attacker backed his side to go all the way this season.

“We are going to win the league, watch and see,” he said.
“Everything I usually say happens and this time is no different. We will build from this performance into the next match. Our spirit is strong and the bond in the squad is amazing. We are not just playing football but chasing history. It will not be easy, but we will eventually win the league at the end of the season.”

Mpisane’s bold remarks reflect the growing belief within the Highlanders camp.

Highlanders fans, who filled the stands in full voice, celebrated passionately as their team displayed the kind of form that fuels dreams of a long-awaited league crown.

The victory lifted the capital city giants further up the MTN Premier League table, and if confidence counts for anything, Highlanders supporters may just have every reason to believe in their star man’s prophecy.

We Are Still a Growing Team – Coach Ernest

SOCCER – MBABANE: Highlanders AM coach Ernest Mavuso says his youthful side is still a work in progress despite registering their first win of the season.

Highlanders AM finally found their scoring touch on Saturday, beating Manzini Sea Birds 2–0 at Mavuso Sports Centre to claim their maiden victory in the MTN Premier League of Eswatini campaign.

The win followed a frustrating opening draw against Nsingizini Hotspurs, where the black-and-white outfit failed to find the back of the net.

Mavuso, a former Green Mamba championship-winning coach, said the team made key adjustments during the FIFA break to address their attacking shortcomings.

“After our first game, we worked specifically on our final third and attacking transitions. The boys responded well and I’m happy we created and converted chances,” he said.

Despite the victory, Mavuso played down any early title talk, describing his side as one still finding its rhythm in a competitive league.

“We are a team that is growing. There is nothing much I can say we have achieved so far. We are yet to experience the ups and downs of the season,” he said.

He added that football dynamics change constantly, and performance expectations vary depending on the opponent.

“Every game brings a different demand. What worked last week might not work today because the opponent changes everything,” Mavuso stated.

The win lifted morale in the Highlanders AM camp, with players showing improved cohesion and confidence. Their attacking play, led by energetic forwards, troubled Sea Birds’ defence, especially in the first half.

Highlanders AM will look to build on this result as they continue their push for consistency under Mavuso, who remains focused on long-term development rather than short-term glory.

The team’s next fixture will be against Amawele FC.

Meanwhile, Sea Birds coach Friday Myeni admitted that his side struggled tactically, though he was pleased with their overall effort.

“The players applied themselves well, but we had lapses in tactical awareness. They panicked under pressure and played with the same intensity throughout instead of controlling the game,” Myeni said
