Eswatini international boxer Thabiso Dlamini has announced that the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow could mark the end of his international competitive boxing career.

The 32-year-old veteran revealed the news during an interview with Eswatini TV Sports at a recent tournament, saying he hoped to bow out on a high note. Dlamini first competed at the Commonwealth Games in 2013, also hosted in Scotland, and is aiming to finish his journey on the international stage with a strong showing.

“This could be my last Commonwealth Games because I feel I still have one more good showing left in me at an international competition. I want to show that given the opportunity to represent Eswatini, I would grab it with both hands and go as far as I can,” he said.
While his sights are firmly set on Glasgow, Dlamini hinted that the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles might also be on the horizon, depending on his form.

“With the experience that I have from competing abroad, I feel like Emaswati can gain more recognition and knowledge through the investments they have made in my career. The upcoming Olympics could be my last in that competition, but that will all be determined by how I perform leading up to the competition,” he said.Looking beyond his time in the ring, Dlamini said he has already started preparing for life after boxing. He disclosed that he had started training and mentoring young fighters, including a few who have gone on to compete for the national team.

“I have already started preparing for my future in the sport, as there are children I have already started training and mentoring. I have mentored a couple of national boxers so when it is time to hang up my gloves, coaching will not be a new concept to me,” added Dlamini.
